Why train Krav Maga at Sanctuary Training Center in Mahopac? Between martial arts training being as popular as it ever was, and the information you can get from social media (good and bad), why should Sanctuary Training Center be your destination for self defense...especially Krav Maga? The center was founded by Aires Pacheco and Rob Morelli, long time friends and training partners. Collectively, they bring decades and decades worth of martial arts training, experience, and expertise to their members and private clients. They combine their diverse backgrounds to teach self defense and conditioning through boxing, kickboxing, grappling, strength & conditioning, and of course... Krav Maga. Rob is the lead instructor for the Krav Maga program at Sanctuary. He has not only trained and taught at the top Krav Maga schools in NY, but in California and Maryland as well. Throughout his training he achieved the rank of second degree black belt with Krav Maga Worldwide and the Krav Maga Association of America while training/teaching at the worldwide training center in Los Angeles. His other certifications include advanced law enforcement training as well as youth self defense. Why is this important and why should you care? The quick and painless answer to this question is simple... RULES! The biggest difference between self defense and combat sports, are rules. For simplicity, lets pick on boxing. First, boxing is an integral part of learning how to defend yourself. It is one of the best hand fighting systems in the world. However, with boxing comes... can you guess it? That is right, rules. By itself, we do not consider boxing self defense. Aires and Rob have been both competitors as well as coaches in competition boxing. You generally know your opponent. There are weight classes. The only strikes allowed are jabs, crosses, hooks, and uppercuts. (No groin kicks?? Blasphemous!) You may not hit back of the head, groin, or attack the legs. Generally, rounds last for 2 mins and go for 10 rounds, sometimes 12 rounds. When an opponent gets knocked down, they are given a 10 second count to get up or the fight ends. If a fighter gets seriously injured a doctor can determine the fight must not continue. In other words, no one accidentally finds themselves in the middle of a boxing match wondering how they go there. At Sanctuary Training Center, we are certified in both USA Boxing as well as self defense. We can educate our members within the rules of combat sports but also what to do when you are put in a situation where there are no "rules". We have to constantly play the "what if?" game when it comes to self defense. What if they are much bigger than me? What if there are multiple threats? What if they sneak up behind me? What if there is a weapon involved? And so on and so on... When looking into training how to "fight", first understand your purpose behind what you are training for. Then, make sure your choice in a training center fits those goals. At Sanctuary Training Center we offer our members the full experience of knowing how to defend yourself in as many situations as possible. Know your goals. Train Smart. Train often. KIDA!
