Reality Check: Real Confidence Does Not Come From Compliments

Reality Check: Real Confidence Does Not Come From Compliments

"You are amazing."

"You can do anything."

"You are the best."

Kids need encouragement. Absolutely.

However, there is a limit to what compliments can do. Especially when they are given too often and without reason.

Eventually your child is going to encounter something they are not immediately good at

That is where real confidence begins.

Confidence is not believing you are the best.

It is knowing you can handle being a beginner.

It is knowing that someone else can be better than you at something without making you less valuable.

That is why martial arts can be such a powerful confidence builder.

We are constantly giving kids opportunities to experience small challenges.

Something is difficult.

 They practice.

They improve.

They succeed.

And they have proof.

"I did something that was hard."

That is different from simply being told they are capable.

We are not saying that compliments do not matter.

They do.

But eventually, kids need experiences that allow them to say:

"I know I can do this because I have done hard things before."

That is real confidence they can continue to build on.

Bringing you the best in martial arts, self-defense, & fitness.
